Emergency First Aid in the Workplace
By the end of this unit, the learner will be able to:
- Explain the roles and responsibilities of a workplace first aider.
- Assess an emergency situation and ensure the safety of themselves and others.
- Perform a primary survey to identify life-threatening conditions.
- Demonstrate adult CPR and safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- Provide first aid to a casualty who is choking, bleeding, or in shock.
Recognition and Management of Illness and Injury in the Workplace
By the end of this unit, the learner will be able to:
- Identify common workplace injuries and sudden illnesses.
- Provide appropriate first aid for fractures, sprains, and strains.

Secondary Survey and Casualty History

- Record a casualty’s history using the SAMPLE method (Signs/Symptoms, Allergies, Medications, Past medical history, Last meal, Events leading up).
- Monitor and record a casualty’s vital signs.

First Aid for Serious Injuries and Medical Emergencies

- Recognise and treat head, neck, and spinal injuries.
- Provide first aid for chest injuries and severe bleeding.
- Manage casualties with suspected pelvic or abdominal injuries.
